Built from 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 surviving buildings with 8,707 bays of rooms and covers 720,000 square metres (7,800,000 square feet). The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture,and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987,and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.

While we can also named it Forbidden Palace,another English name of similar origin. The centre of the Forbidden City is the Hall of Supreme Harmony.It is the museum with the richest collection of cultural relics in China, and also a world-famous museum of ancient cultural arts. Many cultural relics preserved in it are unique in the world.
The most materials of the building is precious Phoebe zhennan wood (Chinese: 楠木; pinyin: nánmù) Cause it is for the emperor use, the brick are all in golden bricks, in Chinese lessons we can named it 金砖。Specially baked paving bricks for Suzhou. The whole construction lasted 15 years.
Now, above all the content of Chinese lessons ,we can conclude that the biggest and most complete ancient building complex is the former Imperial Palace (also known as the Forbidden City) in Beijing. It has a long history, from 1420 to 1644,it was the seat of the Ming Dynasty. Now the Forbidden City has become controversial. It was imperial palace of both the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was first completed in 1420 and covers an area of 720,000 square meters.
